Gold, the colour of fortune
Gold stands for the precious, the noble and the abundant, which is why the golden arowana is the most prized of its kind.
In Chinese communities from Singapore and Malaysia to Hong Kong and Taiwan, the arowana is known as the dragon fish: a living charm for wealth and good fortune, often kept in hotel and restaurant lobbies. A painting brings the same wish to your wall, without the tank.
Gold stands for the precious, the noble and the abundant, which is why the golden arowana is the most prized of its kind.
Its large scales and barbels recall the Chinese dragon, and it carries a dragon's authority: status, prosperity and balance between heaven and earth.
Popular belief holds that the fish turns misfortune away, even taking it on in its owner's place. In a painting, that protection hangs quietly on the wall.

Each number carries a wish. Tell us yours and we choose the number of fish when we paint.
Symbolism follows Chinese tradition, popular belief and the artist's own notes. A painting is a work of art, not a guarantee of any outcome.
Tell us where it will hang and what you hope it brings. We match the subject, the mood and the scale.
Clubs, hotels, offices and homes each hang a painting differently.
For offices and headquarters, hotels and clubs, restaurants and shops, and private homes. The subject, number of fish, colours and size are decided with you.
Share the space, the wall size and photos if you have them, and the wish behind the painting.
We propose the composition and meaning, and preview it on your wall before work begins.

Xue Jiuzhou is a celebrated Chinese painter, the founder of the arowana school of Chinese painting, and a pioneer and leading figure in painting Huangshan through the four seasons.
He is best known for the arowana, which he renders in ink with a look entirely his own. Beyond the arowana, his brush ranges widely: carp and goldfish gliding beneath lotus leaves and wisteria; peonies, lotus, wisteria and fruit, full and luminous; peacocks and roosters, emblems of wealth and good fortune; and Huangshan, painted through its sea of clouds, rugged pines, waterfalls and peaks. The subjects differ, but the brush is one: free and expressive, always after the spirit of the thing. Two of his 100-metre scrolls, one of arowana and one of Huangshan, are in the permanent collection of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, securing his place as a representative figure in contemporary Chinese ink painting.
Born from flowers, birds, fish and insects, yet moving beyond them: to keep innovating is the work of a lifetime.
